Let's Build It . . . Together!

WHAT IS THIS SECRET UNDERTAKING?

We want to build Carrie and Dave a deck and we want it to be a surprise, hence the secrecy. (Of course things will get tricky when we start digging in their backyard!)

WHY ARE WE DOING THIS FOR CARRIE AND DAVE?

If you know Carrie, you know what an amazing person she is. She is one of a kind. Truly. She is our friend, our nurse, our confidante, our shoulder to cry on, our advocate, our sister, our mentor, our angel.

Carrie and Dave's life has been hard these past nine years as they've fought the battle of Dave's migraines. Even though Carrie has so much on her own plate, she gives and gives and gives of herself to others—any time of day and night. I'm sure we could fill a stadium with people who can share how Carrie has touched their lives in some way.

Now we want to give back to Carrie and Dave. As a gift of thanks and a gesture of love.

BUT WHY A DECK?

The simple answer is because they really want one.

Another reason is that Carrie and I have passed many hours sitting on my deck drinking coffee, eating scones and talking. It's been a place of refuge and restoration. I want her to be able to walk out of her own house, coffee in hand with her Bible and journal to spend time outdoors with God, with her friends and with her family.

And the main reason is that two years ago God clearly put it on my heart that this is something I should make happen. (I know... I'm a slow listener.)

WHO WILL BUILD IT?

Many of us are connected to Carrie and Dave through mission trips we've taken together to Haiti and the DR. If there is two things us missionaries can do well it's dig ditches and build things, hand in hand. We already have a core planning team in place. We'll send out the call for help when the time comes.

WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN?

If all goes as planned, we'll break ground in the spring when the soil is ready. The goal is to be finished by Memorial Day.

This is truly a major undertaking and will take the collective efforts of many! We hope to raise all the money for construction materials. Additional funds raised will go to extra touches like deck furniture, decorations and landscaping. All labor will be done by volunteers.

Down the road we'll need lots of help with digging, construction, providing lunch for the crews, entertainment (a band would be great! :) and moral support. Let me know if and how you want to help.
